Tips for cheap fishing in Tulum

πŸ‘₯

Book shared charters

Shared charters are 40–60% cheaper than private boats. You'll fish alongside 2–5 other anglers, which most people find perfectly enjoyable.

πŸ“…

Travel off-peak

June–October sees 15–25% lower charter prices and fewer boats on the water. Fishing is still excellent for many species during this period.

🎣

Book the half-day

At $180 per person, the half-day inshore trip is the most affordable entry point. Great catch rates for inshore species and a complete fishing experience.

🍞

Bring your own food

On shared charters without the all-inclusive package, bringing your own lunch and snacks saves money. We provide water β€” bring whatever else you like.

🀝

Split a private charter

If you're a group of 4–6, a private full-day charter at $950 total works out to $158–238 per person β€” cheaper than a shared trip and you get the whole boat.

Questions

Pricing FAQs

Are tips expected for fishing guides in Tulum?+

Tips are not included in the charter price and are greatly appreciated by the captain and crew. The standard is 15–20% of the charter price for a good trip. On a $320 full-day, that's $50–65 per boat, split between captain and mate. Tip in cash (USD or MXN both accepted).

Is fishing in Tulum expensive compared to CancΓΊn?+

Tulum fishing charter prices are very similar to CancΓΊn, but Tulum offers significantly better value because of less fishing pressure, higher catch rates, and a more personal, less commercial experience. Your per-fish cost in Tulum is almost always lower.

Do I pay if we don't catch anything?+

Yes β€” all fishing charters are sold on a time basis, not a results basis. Fishing is never guaranteed. That said, our captains have an excellent track record and will work hard to put you on fish. If conditions are completely unfishable due to weather, we'll reschedule or offer a full refund.

Can I negotiate the charter price?+

Our listed prices are our best prices for the quality and service provided. For multi-day bookings or large groups, contact us to discuss custom packages. We don't negotiate individual day rates, but we do reward loyalty and multi-day clients with meaningful discounts.
